Linden’s ESL model program has been recognized by the state of New Jersey for the past eight years. During this time, we have made ourselves available to meet with representatives from other districts to discuss our award-winning program.

Today, we had the opportunity to proudly show our district’s commitment to supporting instruction for all our English language learners throughout all of their courses to a delegation from Pennsauken High School. Principal Tameka Matthews, Guidance Counselor Lina Cabrera, and ESL Teacher Somanette Seang toured both the main building and the Linden Academy building to observe ESL teachers and content area teachers working in teams to deliver high-quality lessons to not only our ESL students, but also the general population, too.

During this visit, they also had the opportunity to ask questions of our Supervisor, Mrs. Alphonsina Paternostro and Department Chair, Mr. William Simonitis. Throughout this question and answer session, much of which focused on approaches towards incorporating SIOP strategies into content area classrooms and establishing a balance between opportunity and academic rigor that will prepare our English language learners for the careers of the future.

Linden is always willing and able to work with our colleagues from throughout the state to help them achieve the same type of success that we have, and our recognition as a New Jersey ESL Model Program provides us with the perfect vehicle to do so.
